Q3 2021 Report & Thank You!
October 16 will mark six years since I lost my husband Greg. I am proud to continue honoring his memory through the Gregory J. Reiter Memorial Fund, carrying on with support for programs designed to benefit both animals and people. While this fund runs primarily on resources Greg left behind, I am always grateful for additional donations from friends like you!
In September, I had the opportunity to speak on my local Animal Advocates of South Central Pennsylvania Be Kind podcast, sharing how Greg and I started helping animals in the 1990s; how I launched this fund in 2016; why it is dedicated to animals and the environment, a sector that receives just 3% of US charitable dollars; and why one major focus is ending cruelty in the horse racing industry.

Report
During the third quarter of 2021, the fund made fresh grants to three organizations:
1 – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

The Fund is supporting PETA’s campaign to end cruelty toward racehorses for the sixth consecutive year. A key campaign focus this year is working in both New York and Pennsylvania to stop more than $500 million in annual taxpayer subsidies of the horse racing industry, in coalition with organizations seeking to redirect those funds to public education and other social services.
2 – Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM)

The Fund is supporting the Physicians Committee for the sixth consecutive year, and sponsoring its Exam Room™ podcast and Facebook Live/Youtube broadcasts for the third consecutive year. Each week, the show features several leading health professionals discussing vegan nutrition and medical news, and interviews special guests like New York mayoral candidate Eric Adams sharing how a plant-based diet saved his life. This quarter, the Fund has sponsored weekly Live Q&A sessions with Physicians Committee founder and president Neal Barnard, MD, including Food, Fat, and Your Immune System and Foods that Help Fight Depression.
3 – Faunalytics

The Fund made a grant to Faunalytics for the first time this quarter, providing general support for its research and analysis to help animal advocates reduce animal suffering. Faunalytics’ recent reports have included What Does 15 years of Wildlife Trade Data Tell Us? and The True Cost of Our Groceries.
