Q1 2023 Report!

The Greg Fund launched into 2023 with grants to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) — boosting impactful initiatives for animals and human health for the 8th consecutive year.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)

Helping Companion Animals: A Greg Fund grant continued to support PETA’s Community Animal Project in Virginia and North Carolina — providing basic care for neglected dogs, cats, and other animals in low-income communities; promoting adoptions; performing free and low-cost sterilization and end-of-life services; and steadily winning new regulatory and legislative protections for dogs chained or penned outdoors.

Defending Horses: In Q1 2023, Greg Fund grants continued to support PETA’s leading role in the New York Coalition to End Horse Racing Subsidies, which is working to redirect $230 million per year to education and social services instead of the cruel horse racing industry, and to remove from the state budget an additional $455 million “loan” for renovation of the Belmont Park racetrack. See The New Belmont Park Could Become the Country’s Deadliest Track for Horses (New York Focus, March 14), and More Money for Belmont is a Losing Bet (Times Union, March 26).

Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM)

Promoting Human Health: The Exam Room Podcast of the Physicians Committee has expanded steadily since the Greg Fund became a sponsor in 2019 — marking 12 million downloads with its first live in-person “Fighting Disease, Celebrating Health” event March 29 in Los Angeles, and announcing the next event for July 12 in New York City!

Q1 2023 Exam Room Podcast episodes sponsored by the Greg Fund include these Live Q&A sessions with Physicians Committee founder and president Dr. Neal Barnard:
