Q3 2025 Report – Ten Years On

Ten years ago this month, my husband Greg left this world — and I launched a fund in his memory to carry on work for animal protection that had long been our shared passion. Today, I am proud that the Gregory J. Reiter Memorial Fund continues to partner with organizations working for animals in ways that also promote human well-being — and I am grateful to the many friends and colleagues who have supported this fund’s mission.

Greg and me celebrating PETA’s 35th anniversary
September 30, 2015

In the third quarter of 2025, the Greg Fund made grants to four organizations — first-time recipient Sentient Media, and established partners People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, and Faunalytics — focusing on advocacy for humane and healthy food systems, and on the research and investigative work that underpins that advocacy.

🌱 NEW GRANTEE SPOTLIGHT 🌱

Sentient Media, founded in 2018, investigates and explains factory farms and their effect on climate, animals, workers, clean water, public health, and rural communities. Sentient partners with international, national, and local media outlets to reach diverse audiences, and delivers writer training programs and journalism tools. Recent articles include: Meat Is a Leading Emissions Source – But Few Outlets Report On It (published in The Guardian), The Study Big Meat Tried to Bury — and Why It Matters Again, and Where Are the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and What’s RFK’s Beef With Beans?.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), which marks its 45th anniversary in 2025, is well known for work that includes undercover investigations of animal abuse in many industries around the world. Its recent investigations have revealed cruelty and unsanitary conditions at “humane” farms including Oakridge Dairy in Connecticut; chicken slaughter company Farmer Focus in Virginia; and Plainville Farms, where Pennsylvania State Police charged 12 former workers with 141 counts of cruelty to turkeys. The Greg Fund made a grant this quarter to support PETA cruelty investigations including these, and has regularly supported multiple PETA initiatives for ten years.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, marking its 40th anniversary this year, works to save and improve human and animal lives through plant-based diets and ethical and effective scientific research. The Greg Fund is a decade-long supporter — and since 2019, a sponsor of The Exam Room Podcast on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify. The podcast has presented vegan nutrition science through 677 episodes to date, downloaded or streamed over 100 million times in 150+ countries. Recent sponsored episodes have included: Senior Health: The Truth About Aging Well, How to Stop Eating Trash and Finally Feel Better, and Doctor’s List of Healthy Processed Foods.

Faunalytics — now in its 25th year — conducts research, maintains an online library, and supports advocates and organizations in their work to end animal suffering. The Greg Fund made a grant this quarter to help Faunalytics develop a new Investigations Index — a prototype database designed to preserve and analyze the history of animal protection investigations at factory farms, slaughterhouses, research labs, and more; and to help advocates and funders evaluate impact and strategize future campaigns. The Greg Fund has previously supported Faunalytics research projects including The Role of Humanewashing in Grocery Stores.
