2025 Year in Review
The Gregory J. Reiter Memorial Fund supports work to end animal cruelty in many forms, championing vegan living and systemic change that also benefits people. The Fund was launched on Earth Day 2016 — and now more than ever, we advocate for compassion toward all sentient beings, especially the most vulnerable among us.
In calendar year 2025, as in several previous years, the Fund issued a total of $52,000 in grants — $1,000 for each year of Greg’s life.
2025 grant recipients were:
- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
- Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM)
- Sentient Media
- A Well-Fed World
- Faunalytics
Below are details of the Greg Fund’s 2025 grants to these organizations, followed by thank-yous to those who donated into the Fund during the calendar year.
1 – People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA)
The Fund has contributed to PETA for ten consecutive years. This year’s grants helped support the following initiatives:

Vegan Campaign — Partnerships with local organizations across the United States and Canada to distribute free plant-based roasts during the holiday season.

Cruelty Investigations — Exposés of animal abuse and unsanitary conditions at “humane” farms across the United States, resulting in cruelty-to-animals convictions and loss of business for some of the offending farms.

Research Modernization — Work to replace animal experiments with modern science that delivers better outcomes for humans, contributing to 2025 breakthroughs including a U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) decision to end new funding for animal-only studies.

Global Compassion Fund — Veterinary care, shelter, supply deliveries and international transit for tens of thousands of animals impacted by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; coordinated by PETA Deutschland in partnership with Animal Rescue Kharkiv.

Equine Matters — 10th Annual Gregory J. Reiter Animal Rescue Award to Professor Ranyoung Kim of Jeju Vegan, for rescuing Thoroughbred former racehorses and helping other animals in South Korea.
2 – Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM)

The Fund has contributed to PCRM for ten consecutive years — and for the seventh consecutive year, was a sponsor of The Exam Room Podcast and Exam Room Live (YouTube / Facebook). The podcast has recorded 700 episodes with nutrition experts since 2017, reaching audiences in 150+ countries with a range of plant-based health topics, and debunking disinformation from animal agriculture industries.

The Fund’s grants to PCRM also supported its free nutrition education resources designed to serve low-income communities with high rates of chronic disease — including the Food for Life Health Equity Grant Program, and free registered dietitian guides for eating plant-based on a budget and filling food banks with healthy and compassionate products.
3 – Sentient Media

The Fund made a first-time grant to support Sentient’s journalism, which investigates factory farming and explains the industry’s effect on climate, animals, workers, water quality, public health, and rural communities. Sentient partners with international, national, and local media outlets to reach diverse audiences.
4 – A Well-Fed World

The Fund made a first-time grant to support A Well-Fed World’s international plant-based hunger relief programs, particularly its partnerships with U.S. meal shares and community pantries that serve residents experiencing unprecedented economic hardship.
5 – Faunalytics

The Fund made a grant for the third year to support Faunalytics’ work on a new Investigations Index — a database to preserve and analyze the history of animal protection investigations at factory farms, slaughterhouses, research labs, and more; designed to help advocates and funders strategize future investigative work.
THANK YOU …
To The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (Harrisburg, PA), one of the earliest U.S. community foundations, which has served as this Fund’s manager since New Year 2022.
And to everyone who donated into the Gregory J. Reiter Memorial Fund and the above partner initiatives in 2025! While the Fund runs primarily on assets Greg left behind, it has also expanded its reach through contributions from friends and supporters like you.
