Q2 2025: Ending Animal Experiments and More

Modernizing Research: This quarter’s grants from the Gregory J. Reiter Memorial Fund focused on supporting People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) in their work to end animal experiments.

Scientists, physicians, and other experts at PETA and PCRM have worked for decades to both end the use of animals in research and develop scientifically advanced alternatives.

In April 2025, the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) – the world’s largest funder of animal experiments – announced an initiative to prioritize human-based research technologies, while the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a plan to phase out animal testing requirements for drugs. Both initiatives, to which PETA and PCRM advocacy contributed, promise to greatly expand earlier projects that enjoy substantial support from the general public and from bipartisan legislative coalitions.
