Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy All-Vegan Annual Meeting
The “Greg Fund” was a sponsor of Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy‘s 21st annual member meeting on June 12 – providing attendees a delicious all-vegan meal catered by Market Salamander, and thereby allowing the organization to make yet one more contribution to wildlife and environmental conservation.
We calculated that this one vegan meal for 150 participants saved:
-> 55,000 gallons of water
-> 1,500 square feet of forest
-> 50 animal lives
-> 2,000 pounds of grain
-> 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide
This data comes from dozens of authoritative sources listed at the “Cowspiracy” website, among them the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization publication “Livestock’s Long Shadow” (2006) and the Environmental Working Group publication Meat Eater’s Guide to Climate Change + Health (2011).
Delicious Market Salamander dishes served at the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy meeting included Vegetable Spring Rolls with Thai Peanut Dipping Sauce (these ‘sold out’ first); Vegan “Meatballs” with Risotto, Mushroom and Almonds (which ‘sold out’ second); Vegan Caesar Salad with Roasted Chick Pea Croutons; Penne Pasta with Marinara; “Go Green” Pita Pockets; and Tofu & Quinoa Pasta Salad.
