Lifesaving Interventions: Q3 2026 Grant Highlights

On the eleventh anniversary of my husband Gregory J. Reiter’s passing, I’m proud to share a brief overview of four ways this memorial fund has worked in Q3 2026 to support lifesaving interventions — including public health initiatives and global crisis response to save animals and people.

1 – The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has worked for decades to combat chronic disease with healthy plant-based diets. The Greg Fund has supported the Physicians Committee since 2016, and made its latest grant in September 2026 to support initiatives including: the Let’s Beat Breast Cancer campaign featuring tennis star Venus Williams; Food for Life grants and Hispanic Heritage Month / Mes de la Hispanidad recipes to help nutrition instructors reach underserved communities; the Dine Bich’iya’ (Navajo Food) Nutrition Summit; and a lawsuit arguing that food-industry insiders illegally influenced the 2025-2030 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.

ARK Head of Rescue Operations Ruslan Horbal

2 – Team members of Animal Rescue Kharkiv (ARK), a longtime PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) partner, have been risking their own lives to evacuate animals from Ukraine’s frontline combat zones, in turn facilitating safe human evacuation from those same areas. The Greg Fund has contributed to PETA since 2016, and supported this heroic work since Russia’s initial invasion in February 2022 — and we made our most recent contribution in September 2026.

3 – Magic Marble Foundation has organized plant-based food aid and medical care for human and animal victims of the August 2026 flash floods in Nepal — a country that has contributed almost nothing to the global climate crisis, but experiences some of its most dangerous consequences. The Greg Fund contributed to this relief effort through A Well-Fed World, a plant-based hunger relief and climate advocacy organization that has been a partner throughout 2026.

Iowa State Senator and cancer survivor Catelin Drey

4 – In September, Sentient Media launched an interactive map of each of the 10,830 factory farms in Iowa, paired with a full suite of resources including a statewide resident survey, an investigative series, and videos. Iowa is the U.S. state with both the most factory farms and agricultural waste, and the fastest-growing cancer rate; the series captures the state “at a unique moment in its history, ripe for education and change.” Sentient’s other reporting in September included The Migrant Farmworkers Risking Their Lives for Illegal Wages. The Greg Fund contributed to Sentient’s work in 2026 for the second consecutive year.

The Gregory J. Reiter Memorial Fund has been managed since New Year 2022 by The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (Harrisburg, PA), one of the earliest U.S. community foundations.

While the Fund runs primarily on assets Greg left behind, it has also expanded its reach through donations from friends and supporters like you.

Thank you!
