The Greg Fund made fresh grants to four organizations during the second quarter of 2021, to help make the world a better place for animals of many species, while also promoting human health:
The Fund is supporting PETA for the sixth consecutive year.
a – The Fund partnered with PETA to present the 2021 Gregory J. Reiter Animal Rescue Award, given annually since 2016 to an individual or group. This year’s award winner was Sheila Choi, founder and CEO of The Fuzzy Pet Foundation, based in the Los Angeles region. Since 2005, Sheila’s organization has provided spay and neuter services to more than 6,000 cats and dogs, and rescued and rehomed more than 2,000 animals.
b – The Fund also contributed to PETA’s Global Compassion Fund, which has worked to mitigate companion animal overpopulation in Romania; hosted spay-a-thons in the Philippines; funded the only veterinary clinic for donkeys in Petra, Jordan; and rescued horses from hard labor in India while replacing them with eco-friendly mechanized carts.
The Fund is supporting the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition for the first time this quarter, for production of a forthcoming documentary film about sustainable and humane food. Founded and run by University of California-Berkeley alumni, FFAC’s core work includes educational programming for schools, environmental organizations, faith communities, businesses, and government agencies.
The Fund is supporting the Physicians Committee for the sixth consecutive year, and sponsoring its Exam Room™ podcast and Facebook Live / Youtube broadcasts for the third consecutive year. Focusing on vegan nutrition and medical news, the Fund’s sponsored episodes this quarter have included Oh My Cholesterol! Eggs! and other weekly Live Q&A sessions with Physicians Committee founder and president Neal Barnard, MD.
The Fund is supporting White Coat Waste Project for the fifth consecutive year. This quarter, White Coat Waste has continued progress in expanding retirement programs for federal research animals, partnering with Congressional animal advocates from Senator Susan Collins (R-Maine) to Representative Brendan Boyle (D-PA 2nd district).
The Fund has also received fresh contributions from these generous individuals in 2021 to date. A heartfelt THANK YOU!
