Give The Gift Of Health On Greg’s 57th Birthday

Tomorrow, June 6, 2020, will be my late husband Greg’s 57th birthday. I hope you will take a moment to remember him over your favorite vegan meal. Also if you are able, I hope you will consider a gift to the Gregory J. Reiter Memorial Fund — which, in turn, can help give the gift of health to people around the world.

The Fund has focused this quarter on sponsoring daily health news broadcasts by The Exam Room™ of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), whose mission is to promote lifesaving nutrition and end animal cruelty in labs and classrooms.

Last week, the Fund sponsored the Exam Room Facebook Live and Youtube program Not Becoming A Stroke Statistic – Fighting Back With Food and podcast Change What You Eat, Change Your Stroke Risk.

This week, the Exam Room highlighted the work of best-selling author and award-winning public health nutritionist (also one of my early teachers) Tracye McQuirter, discussing her 10,000 Black Vegan Women initiative. Check out this video of The Ageless Vegan Facebook Live broadcast — plus the podcasts Racial Disparities and Health and Eating Like the Past Creates a Healthier Future: The African Heritage Power Plate.

Since our first sponsored Exam Room podcast Protecting Your Heart with Plants on Greg’s 2019 birthday — building from Greg’s and my longstanding relationship with PCRM — the program has now added daily Facebook Live broadcasts Monday-Friday at noon Eastern time, and also increased the frequency of its podcasts and Youtube videos.

Also this quarter:

— The Greg Fund helped Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary raise money for over 200 rescued pigs, cows, sheep, goats, chickens, turkeys and other animals, by contributing to its May 17, 17th annual 5k — a virtual event this year. Animal sanctuaries face particular challenges during the pandemic — but Poplar Spring raised a record sum through this year’s virtual run.

— The Greg Fund has continued to support the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) campaign to end cruelty toward racehorses — which on May 28 joined a coalition formally urging New York Governor Cuomo to redirect taxpayer racing industry subsidies toward urgent education, healthcare, and human service needs.

Also, PETA’s 5th annual Gregory J. Reiter Animal Rescue Award will be presented in late June — stay tuned for details!

— Lots more information on Greg Fund-supported initiatives is in the Animal Advocacy section of our website.

Thank you so much for remembering Greg on his birthday!
